2023 Florida Female Coach Opportunity
FLORIDA FEMALE COACH OPPORTUNITY
The ASRCA aims to increase the pool of competitive coaches within its member clubs. The Alberta Sprint Racing Canoe Association (ASRCA) and its member Clubs comprise a mutually beneficial association where coaching development is valued. At the same time, it recognizes the autonomy of clubs, including but not limited to staff training and coach development. When a club and ASRCA goals are aligned, partnerships are encouraged.
Club teams are dependent on the availability of good coaches, and Team Alberta draws on the club coach population to recruit the Canada Games coaching team, therefor it is mutually beneficial to provide opportunities for coach development. Canada Games requires both male and female coaches who are Competition-Development (Comp-dev) certified. In 2022 ASRCA clubs employed one female and four male Competition-Development Certified coaches.
To foster the next generation of female Comp-dev coaches, this project has been created to expose existing female coaches to training beyond their experience in the club environment. The below-outlined project allows up to two female coaches to attend the 2023 ASRCA Florida Spring Training Camp.
About the Project
The ASRCA is inviting applications from member clubs for developing female coaches aged between 15 and 22 to attend the ASRCA Florida Spring Training Camp for a period of one week.
The opportunity is offered as a partnership between ASRCA and the club(s), with the ASRCA providing the club with a $500 subsidy for travel and meals. Shared staff accommodation for one week will be provided. Although not mandatory, clubs providing matching funds ($500) to offset the remaining cost of travel and meals may be viewed more favourably.
One-week periods are offered to start March 11th and March 18th to correspond with the time when the largest number of athletes are at camp. While at camp, the successful applicants will serve as a member of the coaching team under the supervision of senior coaches to build on their coaching skills and confidence in different environments. The coach will spend one day at the Canadian National Team camp in Indian Harbour Beach. While with the national team, the coach will shadow a national team coach in the daily training environment. Coaches who are Comp-intro 'Trained' but not yet certified will receive an on-water Comp-intro evaluation and, if successful, recorded in the National Coach Certification Program Database.
