CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS - July 10th ABT1

The first of two on-water Alberta trial events in 2021 will be held at the Calgary Canoe Club on Saturday, July 10, 2021. This is a provincial event and will assist ASRCA (Alberta Sprint Racing Canoe Association) to identify and assess the performance level of the current pool of provincial sprint canoe-kayak competitors.

We are looking for volunteers to help run the event. Email el@asrca.com to express willingness to volunteer. Many positions do not require experience.

The event will be run as Individual Time Trials for K1 and C1 over 200m and 2000m distance with start times of 11:30am (200m) and 2:00pm (2000m) respectively. This event is just for Alberta athletes. Link to the Event.

We require volunteers for the following positions:

  • Two (2) power boat drivers with Boat Operators License

  • Two (2) people on power boats to retrieve capsized paddlers;

  • Starter Team: Starter (Filled), Assistant Starter, Start Time Recorder;

  • Two (2) Turn Judges to report proper 1km turns in the 2km event (Positioned on land);

  • Finish Team: Four (4) Finish line timers doing timing and recording;

  • Regatta Safety Officer;

  • Boat Control (reporting post race boat weight)

    There will be an introductory officials training session in the week prior to the event (i.e. one evening in the week of July 5-9) at the Calgary Canoe Club. The training session will be about 60- 90 minutes. More details about exact date and time of the training will follow shortly.

    Please consider volunteering at this event to help it run smoothly and provide a good experience for all the athletes who had to go so long without any competitive event. Your assistance will be much appreciated by athletes, coaches and organizers alike.

    Please contact Sandra Steinbach-Kane at officials@asrca.com if you can volunteer. Please also indicate on which evening(s) in the week of July 5-9 you could attend the training session.
