Fitness testing event

The Alberta Sprint Racing Canoe Association is excited to announce that we are having a 2 day fitness testing event on February 22 and 23, 2025. This will give Alberta athletes the opportunity to engage in fitness tests and remain competitive with other canoe/kayak athletes in Canada.

ASRCA will be partnering with the TCR Sport Lab in Calgary where professional experts (Certified Exercise Physiologists) will conduct fitness tests in their state of the art facility. TCR Sports Lab has over 18 years of experience and have conducted similar fitness testing on cross country skiing, hockey, track, and cycling athletes.

The fitness tests that will be assessed are:

  • VO2 test
  • Blood Lactate test
  • Skinfold (National Team Protocol)
  • Strength Testing:
    • 3 RM Bench
    • Grip Strength (dead hang hold at BW)
    • Vertical Jump (height and power)
    • Goblet Squat (50 reps at 1/4 BW)
    • Y-Balance Test (Measurement of flexibility and torso/hip mobility)

Check out the TCR Sport Lab website for more detailed information on the above tests. Each athlete will be allocated a 2.5 hour time slot on Saturday February 22 or Sunday February 23 to complete the fitness tests.

To be eligible to participate in this fitness testing event, athletes must:

  • Be 15 years of age or older as of January 1, 2025
  • Be an Alberta permanent resident
  • Be an athlete and registered member of an ASRCA Member Club
  • Have attended a Spring Training Camp in 2024 or are registered to attend a Spring Training Camp in 2025

ASRCA will be subsidizing the cost for athletes who partake in this fitness testing event. The cost for athletes is:

  • $100 for athletes 18 years of age and older (on February 22, 2025)
  • $75 for athletes under 18 years of age (on February 22, 2025)
