Ryan Bates - provincialathleterep1@asrca.com I have been a member of the Calgary Canoe Club for 8 years and have been competing at events, such as Divisionals and Nationals, for 7 years. I've coached the summer camps at the Calgary Canoe Club for the last 2 years. I am 16 years old and attending Central Memorial High School, currently in Grade 11. In my free time, when I am not paddling, I do lots of fishing, with my favourite being fly fishing, as well as various other outdoor activities. I am very excited to take this role on for this upcoming season and seeing what I can bring to the table for the better of the athletes and making sure there voices are heard and represented in the proper ways. |

Lauren Rentz - provincialathleterep2@asrca.com I've been paddling with the Calgary Canoe Club for 10 years, most recently competing at Canada Summer Games in St. John's and Sprint Nationals in Regina. I am currently in my second year of undergraduate studies in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. For as long as I can remember, I have loved being active outside and trying new things, especially paddling. I am excited to be involved in this role and to help inform ASCRA about funding, athlete development, and other related areas from an experienced athlete's perspective. As I move into the upper years of my degree, I have begun to seek out experiential learning and leadership opportunities such as internships, volunteering, and this position, and am eager to further my own and other's leadership and sport development through being an athlete representative. |
The Alberta Sprint Racing Canoe Association (ASRCA) has Provincial Athlete Representatives. The main purpose of this role is to represent the views of competitive athletes within our community and provide athlete feedback to the ASCRA Board members. Be a voice for your fellow athletes and support the development of Sprint Canoe/Kayak in Alberta.
Responsibilities of an Athlete Representative include:
-
Provide feedback on ASRCA organized and/or sponsored events such as Alberta Time Trials, Spring Camp, etc. It is expected that the Athlete Representative would have attended these events and gathered feedback from the athletes who were in attendance. The feedback will be used by the ASRCA Board in the planning of future events.
-
Provide input during the planning stage of events that are organized and/or sponsored by ASRCA such as regattas, camps, team building activities.
-
Make suggestions for new provincial initiatives and propose improvements to the format of existing initiatives such as regattas and camps. The proposals should be in line with the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Plan, enhance the athlete experience at these events, and further the team spirit of the provincial athlete community.
-
Gain an understanding of the SafeSport program and potentially attend training sessions to better understand how athletes are protected by the program and to support fellow athletes in any SafeSport related queries.
-
Attend part of ASRCA Board meetings when required.
-
Bring any questions and/or concerns from the athlete community to the Board.
